my first artist lyndl hall, who i had blogged about before in december. i really like her use of space and think it works well in balance with the subjects she draws. she also has nice contrast between her whites and blacks, which in turn balance her peices. I am more fond of the house/tree drawings, with how the lines interact and cross, than the ones of people that she draws. I think she uses the lines well to create a path for your eye to follow throughout her peices.

i couldn't decide one specific artist out of these to love more than others, so ijust put them all. but what i really enjoy with all their work is their use of layering in the abstract form. jana has more realistic subjects, and a bit of a commentary behind the peices with the environment in the first handful, but they work really well with more abstract backgrounds and the simple line industrial objects layered over top. david's peices feel very powerful because of the rich colors in browns, which i like to use more in my art as well; plus there's a nice build up of layers. for kirsten's, i'm really drawn to the first seven because they have that same quiet space use that lyndl does, and simplistic with just the black and white colors and a hint of the burgandy. And i like how there's translucenty to the background layers behind the bold lines on top. both annette and gabe's are more bright and color, but still have that good use of layers and use subjects from a natural setting and make them more abstract as well.

FEBRUARY CRITIQUE
MY CONCENTRATION IS THE PERSONAL JOURNEY OF EXPLORATION AND IDULGENCE IN THE ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES OF ART THROUGH THE REPRESENTATIONAL EXPRESSION OF A CIRCULAR FIGURE.

THIS PEICE IS SUPPOSED TO REPRSENT TEXTURE. i only had one class period to work on it, so i still fill like its very unfinished & there could be a lot more done to it. i want to work on building up the paint more and really working to create a ton of TEXTURE so it lives up to its title. i tried using colors that i hadnt before.. im kind of pleased with them. i feel like its a little hectic and messy too, so i may go back and white out some of the color and patterns

this peice is supposed to represent CONTRAST. i was using this canvas to test out ideas and expiriment on, so i feel like the circles added on top dont look too connected , except color wise. i know i need to go back and work more on this one too.. but im not quite sure what else it needs. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
